Adult day care centers usually start around $25 per day and can go up to $70 or more. The cost varies, depending on the area and the types of services provided. For example, meals and transportation; nursing care; dementia-related care; and physical, occupational and speech therapies are all services that may affect pricing. Many centers adjust their fees with a sliding scale based on income.
Medicare does not cover adult day care, but Medicaid, which is for those with low income and few assets, pays most or all of the costs – as long as the center meets certain requirements such as licensing. Private medical insurance and long-term care insurance may also cover a portion of adult day care, depending on the policy and the center. (For example, one stipulation might be that licensed medical staff provide the care.)
